About Us

The Peifer Store was started by Fred & Shirley Peifer, after retiring from the Security Business in Memphis, Tn. After 40 years of being in business, we thought we needed a quieter, smaller place to retire After about a year, we knew we needed something to keep us busy, but not a brick and morter business. The internet business seemed to be a good idea, except neither of us knew much about a computer. Of course we needed products to sell and I just didn't want to sell security items anymore.

We have 2 children, a boy, Glen, and a girl Debbie. These kids were raised in the outdoors. It seemed we went camping and fishing almost every weekend when the weather was nice and sometime when the weather was not so nice. My son loved the fishing and my daughter, not so much. Shirley taught Glen to fish from the bank, while I was out in the boat fishing. By the time he was 12 he could outfish the whole family. He loved to Bass Fish and when he was a little older started fishing all the Bass Tournments he could. After a lot of work and winning a lot of tournments, he finally got sponsorship into the Pro BASS Tournment Trail. He fished the trail for 17 years, 10 years in the Top 100, before retiring from professional fishing. He now puts all that energy into Crappie Fishing and now thinks he is a better Crappie Fisherman than he ever was Bass Fisherman. I really don't know about that, but he can beat me at either and I always could catch a few .

We decided that with all our experience in the outdoors, it would be fun just selling the products we have been useing all these years. With Southern Pro Tackle being located in Brookland, Ar, 20 Min from our house, we decided to talk to them about selling their baits.

Years ago, my wife was my best insperation for using Artificial Baits. I had to Bait her Hook. I have been using all types of Crappie jigs for a long time. Tube jigs are probably my favorite, but in the past few years there have been a lot of changes in the Bait Industry. I like using different baits at different times of the year and different type fishing. I just got a new Minn Kota Trolling motor for my birthday. It is equipped with a Auto Pilot, which is great when trolling for Crappie or any other fish for that matter. When trolling for Crappie I really like to use Hot Grubs and Tripple Tail Grubs and all sorts of jigs in different colors until I find the right combination to catch fish.

Our favorite type fishing is vertical with a 9 foot Crappie Rod. Find the brush tops in the right delp and you will usually catch a box of fish. Most of the time you will have to find several tops in a days fishing.One of the best tools I have found to help find the tops is a Hummingbird Side Image Fish Finder. It will show the bottom of the lake in a 360 foot wide sweep. You can see the brush, mark and number a waypoint and the GPS will guide you to the exact spot. It will also remember that spot for future fishing.

Our idea is to sell, in our store, good proven quality products., we use or have used in our camping and fishing over the years. Of course there are new products coming on the market every month and we of course, have not used all of them, however we do know the companies that manufacure them. We used to camp in a family tent, so we sell tents. We also sell Trolling Motors and Fish Finders for your boat and Crappie Jigs and fishing products for fishing.
